How Swimming Lessons Help Kids With Stress & Anxiety

Nowadays, children face so many problems both at school and at home. Swimming can serve as a healthy outlet to help keep them physically and mentally fit. Not only is it one of the few non-contact activities that children can safely participate in, but swimming is scientifically proven to help reduce stress and anxiety.

In fact, research shows that swimming for up to 30 minutes can lower stress levels, improve sleep patterns, and reduce anxiety and depression. This is because swimming releases endorphins, signals of well-being in our body that make us feel happier and better. The soothing feeling of swimming in the water also allows you to relax your muscles, release tension and relax your body and mind. Another factor of relaxation is breathing control, which we focus on during each lesson at Swim Academy.

Difficult beginnings

It is normal for babies to cry when they first start learning to swim. For some children, the pool is a big and scary place, and often learning to swim is their first experience in the water without mum and dad by their side, which can cause them separation anxiety. Although not always only children start to worry about starting to learn to swim. As parents, we know how nervous it can be to enroll your toddler in swimming lessons. You may have had your own terrifying experiences when you were younger, or you may have your own separation anxiety that comes from putting your baby in someone else’s care.

Swimming can serve as a healthy outlet to help keep them physically and mentally fit. Not only is it one of the few non-contact activities that children can safely participate in, but swimming is scientifically proven to help reduce stress and anxiety.

Please be assured that each of our instructors is well trained and uses honesty, compassion and trust to ensure that each child and parent are comfortable during their classes. They are sensitive to their swimmers’ feelings and use positive reinforcements to create a friendly environment in the classroom and help students feel more comfortable in the water. As children get used to the classroom, their instructors cease to be strangers and become the familiar, friendly faces they wait for each week.
